Eight months ago, nearly every pastor in the United States kicked off the new year with a series surrounding the pepper jack cheesy idea: 2020 Vision. Heck, even the church I am a part of did a podcast about it.
Little did we know that we would need God's perfect vision now more than ever.
This year has been exhausting.
It has been exhausting for black people as they continue to advocate for their voices to be heard.
It has been exhausting for church leaders as they search for better ways to shepherd the flock.
It has been exhausting for politicians as they navigate through the unknown of Covid-19.
It has been exhausting for educators as they attempt to make the most out of a broken situation.
It has been exhausting for families with high-risk members.
It has been exhausting for individuals who work at grocery stores.
It has been exhausting for individuals who work at restaurants.
It has been exhausting for individuals who work at daycares.
It has been so exhausting for every. single. person.
And yet, the message most pastor's declared at the beginning of the year still rings true: God's perfect plan is not absent from suffering. We must face the suffering head-on with 20/20 vision... His vision.
After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. - John 20:20
After His suffering, Jesus returns to the community that murdered Him and showed them compassion.
It's unimaginable to think about the scars we will have coming out of a year like 2020. It's unimaginable to embrace the type of stories we will be able to tell. But the truth remains the same...
Jesus is king.
Jesus is love.
Jesus is still the hope of the world.
This year has been far from comfortable. But we don't serve a God who welcomes comfortable living. We serve a God who welcomes conquerers (see Romans 8:37 here).
2020 isn't done yet. No matter what the remaining months hold, I know who holds the remaining months.
Time to refocus my vision towards the Mountain Mover.
